A Comprehensive Case Study on Innovative Solutions for Seamless Vacation Planning

Context

“Planning your dream journey, simplified!"

Planning a multi-city vacation is exciting but can be overwhelming, as travellers must coordinate destinations, stays, and transportation within their budget. A tool that simplifies this process by connecting points of interest, optimizing itineraries, and offering affordable transport options would ease the burden and enhance the travel experience.

Problem statement

So what went wrong ?

A multi-city vacation can be an exciting escape from the stress of work and daily life. It’s a perfect way to refresh your mood and recharge. While planning might feel overwhelming—deciding where to go, when, for how long, and what to pack—keeping it simple can make it enjoyable. Focus on a few must-visit spots, plan lightly, and embrace the adventure!

  • 35%: Travellers find it difficult to discover and select suitable destinations for their itinerary.

  • 30%: Travellers struggle to estimate the ideal length of stay at each destination.

  • 25%: Travellers report difficulty finding affordable transportation options between cities.

  • 10%: Travellers are overwhelmed by the complexity of coordinating multiple bookings (transport, accommodations, activities).

User research

It all begins with people

It all started with conversations about travel planning experiences, particularly for multi-city vacations, with individuals actively trying to organize trips across multiple destinations.

After conducting 30 face-to-face interviews with travelers navigating the challenges of planning multi-destination tours, here’s what I found:

  • Difficulty in discovering suitable destinations:

Travellers often find it challenging to identify points of interest that match their preferences, leading to uncertainty in their plans.

  • Time wasted coordinating itineraries:

Manually planning the sequence of destinations and the length of stay in each location consumes significant time and effort.

  • Frustration with finding affordable transport options:

Travellers struggle to compare and select low-cost transportation between destinations, leading to inefficiency and overspending.

  • Limited access to reliable recommendations:

Users often waste time searching for trustworthy reviews and tips for destinations or transportation, causing unnecessary delays in planning.
